ANIMALS IN SPIRIT

For many reasons, people ask me to connect with pets that have died.  Talking to animals that have crossed over is always a challenge.  Not only is it very emotional for me, it can be difficult for my client.  Timing is very important because it can take anywhere from 4 to 6 six weeks for an animal to complete their journey to the other side

That does not mean that they are stuck, it is just a matter of enough time for a transformation.  If I contact an animal immediately after they die, I get nothing but earthbound information.  By waiting, I am able to achieve a more complete reading.

One of the things that animals in spirit consistently tell me is that there is absolutely no fear in dying.  Unlike people, animals remember the other side throughout their lives.  For them it’s like going home and they want us to understand this.

And just like on earth, they have a purpose in spirit.  I have talked with many animals that work with children on the other side.  Many greet family members when  they die and others are facilitators for those in spirit.  I personally have facilitators for my animal communication on the other side.

Animals stay with us as long as they are needed and as I have said many times before, all animals are where they are supposed to be.  As difficult as it is to say goodbye to our animal companions, please understand that when their purpose with you has been fulfilled, they must leave.

Find your quiet place and pay attention….you will realize that they are always around you.

COMMON COMPLAINT

One of the most common complaints that people have with their pets is the issue of inappropriate urinating in the house.  Well, guess what?  I have never met an animal that perceives that as an issue.

To begin with, urinating in their immediate environment is much like putting in a security system.  It identifies the area as their own and protects them from intrusion by other animals.  So, it is basic for them and, therefore I need to explain to them why it is such an issue for humans.

When I explain that the odor is offensive to humans, they often don’t believe me.  Really?  How can that be? Well, it just does!  I then explain that their urine is destructive to rugs, beds, clothes, etc.   I remind them that they chose to return to this earth as a house pet, and there are rules connected with that choice.

After I point out that it makes their human unhappy, I don’t usually need to go any further.  Our animal companions want to please and usually feel badly with this realization.  Some are humiliated and promise that it will never happen again.  Others need time to think it all over.

I had a client with a neutered male cat that marked the entire house almost every day after he turned 4 years old.  The client had 2 sons, and it turns out that her cat felt challenged by their scent once they reached puberty.  I was able to convince him that he could mark his territory on the outside of the house and it would acceptable.  Interestingly enough, when  the boys went off to college, the cat mellowed out and was not seen spraying at all.  She called me the first time her sons returned home on break to tell me that the cat was very busy marking outside the house once again.

Before you become overly concerned about your animal urinating in the house, please visit your veterinarian to rule out a urinary infection or other physical problem.  And keep in mind that animals do not willingly urinate where they eat and sleep, so please place litter boxes and puppy pads in a separate area.  If the problem still exists, do not hesitate to explain how this affects you and your family.  And please, do not yell or punish after the fact.  I often hear…”So, that’s why she/he was so upset with me…I didn’t know”.

WHAT AM I TALKING ABOUT?

Not all animals listen to me just because I am talking to them.  And it doesn’t take much for them to shut me down - they just leave.

First of all, they often do not believe me when I express concern over a problem or issue that their owner has with them.  It may not be in their realm of understanding that it could be a problem - what am I talking about??

Sometimes animals are extremely shy and it takes several attempts before they will even acknowledge me.  These are not necessarily animals who have been abused, either, but simply timid or naturally quiet ones.

Many clients come to me because they want to change a particular behavior.  Well, just for the record, not all animals are going to simply change just because I ask them to.  I often have to bribe them or challenge them just to consider a change.  And other times, just making them aware of the concern does the trick.

This is why, when I do a personal reading, I usually take 2 or 3 days just to become acquainted with the animal before I sit down with the serious questions and concerns.  Usually, by that time, we have covered all of the anxiety and vibrato informally and they are ready to consider seriously talking to me.

The amazing thing is that ultimately, I am usually surprised by the answers!

I AM NOT DR. DOOLITTLE

Unlike Dr. Doolittle, I do not go around talking to every animal I see.  First of all, I follow a strict code of ethics that includes the directive that I do not talk to an animal without permission.

People ask me what it is like to have animals talking to me everywhere I go.  Well...it’s not like that.  If you are walking down the street or at the mall, you don’t talk to everyone you see.  In fact, you might not even pay attention to them.

There is a very good reason for this.  First of all, I do not have the right to interpret just any animal’s behavior or purpose and certainly do not have the right to interfere with it.  If I witness animal abuse or other issue, the opportunity to do something about it will present itself because the animal allows that to happen.  I will be close enough to speak up or report it.

Sometimes, the lesson is just for you.  Sometimes it is a story that crosses the country via news media and the internet - a lesson for many.  The point is...do you care?  Do you have compassion?  Are you able to send love and appreciation for that animal’s lesson for all of us?

The way we treat animals is a reflection of the way we relate to the world.  If we mistreat the basic aspects of life, we can not cherish life.

FRASIER

I have a very wise, old cat named Frasier (now 17 years old) who has been with me before.  I know that he is in my life to help me with this journey that I am on - specifically to teach me how important is is to live in the ‘Now”.

Several years ago, when I became concerned about my lack of ability to talk with my own animals, he stepped up.  It was my inability to stay in the present moment for an extended time that became the issue.  He wanted me to know that I could communicate with him every day if I would become disciplined in this awareness.

He got my attention all right - he disappeared!  I was not really worried at first.  After all, it was springtime and the weather was nice.  However, by the second day, I realized that this was not normal behavior for him, so I sat down to meditate.  The message was loud and clear - ‘I’m OK, I left for a reason, but I’ll be back’.

By the fourth and fifth day, my concern started to overshadow his reassurance.  Back to meditate - the message was the same - “I’m OK, I left for a reason, but I’ll be back’.

Well, after the first week went by, I was sitting down every day for this reassurance and realizing that I was, indeed, communicating with my own cat!  That’s great, but how long would this go on?

By the end of the second week, I was at my wit’s end.  I remember sitting down to meditate just before bedtime and frantically telling him that I had to know if he had passed,  I assured him that I GOT IT!  I knew what I had to do to communicate with him, but I really couldn’t do this any longer.  PLEASE....

Two hours later, I heard a noise.  I got up, and a very self-satisfied Frasier was looking quite well and having a little snack!

CHOOSING

If you ask any animal telepath, they will tell you that the hardest thing to do is to communicate with your own animals....and definitely not for yourself.  All of the people and animals that are in our lives are there for a reason and if you could learn just by asking, our lessons would not be experienced.

If I have an issue with my own animals, I usually call on a fellow animal communicator to help...it’s much easier and far more productive.  (And it is reciprocal)  When it comes to receiving specific information, I feel that I am too close.  It is hard to be objective because interpretations sometime get confused with my personal feelings.  This is never a problem when I speak with animals that I don’t know and don’t live with.

This simply reinforces the fact that every animal is in our life for a reason, and the lessons to be learned must be lived.

Think back to the circumstances that existed when you brought an animal into your life.  Do you think that you made the choice?  Think again.  You were in the right place for a reason...and so was the animal.

HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE?

Many people wonder if their animals understand what they say.  My answer is absolutely!   While they do not understand every single word we say, keep in mind that you can not communicate in words if you don’t know their meaning.  The meaning of the word is what you project - not the word itself.

Some Communicators receive mostly pictures and/or feelings.  When I communicate with animals I get the majority of information in words.  The ‘message’ is translated into words through my guides.  If the animal has difficulty with a concept, I’ll sometimes get pictures to help me interpret their meaning.  In order to expedite the process and get me on the right path, my guides often give me a vision or symbol that relates to something in my life.

For example, i was talking to a cat during one of my galleries and my guides sent a ‘picture’ of my dog’s basket of toys.  I was then able to focus in on the cat’s concern about her toys.  While talking to another dog, they sent a vision of a dog I know that is a lovable old goofball and I could feel his personality.

Some animals are exceptional communicators.  They can cut out the ‘middleman’ and actually show me what they do...almost like watching YouTube!

So, please do not hesitate to talk to your animal companions.  They’re listening!

A Wise Appaloosa

I love to visit barns.  Horses are so easy to talk to....in fact, it was a couple of horses that initiated this wonderful journey that I am now on.  They were actually yelling at me...who could ignore that?

Horses are the very spiritual and have taught me so much.  I remember one barn that I visited some time ago where I learned a valuable lesson.  There were four horses...two dark bays, an appaloosa and a small roan.  I was there to evaluate one of the bays - he had issues with the other horses.

It was going well, but I was getting more information from the appy, including the fact that someone around there was prejudice.   During my discussion with the owner, it came to light that it was ME!  And sure enough, I had always favored dark colored horses.  This wise old soul, who was light colored with a white spotted back, called me out on it.  We have all heard the saying ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ - it took a horse to give it meaning for me and I will never forget it.

Living in the 'Now"

Learning to live in the ‘now’ is such an important lesson.  Spiritual Leader and Author, Eckhart Tolle teaches us to “Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”  Such a simple concept - such a difficult lesson.

In our every day lives, it is common to be out of the moment....running errands, planning dinner...deciding where we need to be tonight, worrying about tomorrow, etc.  Most of these things do need our attention, but more and more each day, take the time to bring yourself back to ‘now’.  It truly is all that you have and when you are somewhere else, it is a part of your life that you can never get back.

All animals live in the ‘now’ and unless I am able to focus on that, I would never be able to communicate with them.  It would be like trying to talk to someone in five minutes....right now!  I must get into the right now ‘time zone ’ or there would be no connection.

Instead of passing by your animal companion with your mind on something else, STOP.  Bring yourself physically, mentally and emotionally into the present moment.  Breathe with it - stop the clutter in your head and focus on being here NOW.  Become aware of your presence and allow the ‘feeling’ of the moment to fill your thoughts.

Listen...that is the place where you can hear your animal companions talking to you.

I can’t do this alone.  If it weren’t for my incredible spirit and healing guides, I would be unable to communicate with the animals.  I also have amazing facilitators who step in to help and guide me along the way.  Many of my facilitators are animals.

I remember the first time that I connected with an animal on the other side.  It is not the same as talking to a living animal.  For instance, you are communicating with spirit and visual contact may not be possible - you must trust the message and the energy.  While I ‘knew’ that I was talking to a horse, I hesitated because I wasn’t sure where I was.  As I did, a vision of my beautiful old horse who had passed, appeared and captured my attention.  I tried to speak to him, but he told me no, that he came just to show me that I was in the right place.  He often guides me when talking to animals that have crossed.

Another time, a friend was training his new bird dog (his awesome hunting dog had died the previous year).  He called me because although the training was going well, there was a problem.  The new dog would go after the bird, but he wouldn’t bring it back...he just dropped it.  Now, I know little or nothing about training a bird dog, so I got all of the information that I could from him and attempted to convey it.  I guess you could say that I was stumbling a bit, because right in the middle of our conversation, the old hunting dog who passed took over.  A short time later, my friend called to say thank you...that the problem was solved - his dog finally got it!  I told him not to thank me, that his old dog had done it all...I was just an observer!

Anytime that communication breaks down, I have several wonderful animals to call upon.  Sometimes I am trying to talk to an animal who is shy or has trust issues and going through a facilitator makes it so much easier to receive the information that I need.

I can’t do this along.  I do not do this alone.  I am just the messenger.

ARE YOU LISTENING?

What if...as we travel on our journey through this Earth School, our animals are leading the way?   What if...we listen to what they have to say?

As an animal communicator, I can assure you that the amount of love, compassion and caring we receive every day from animals makes our journey easier.  If you are blessed with an animal companion in your life, please take the time to listen.

The only place you will find animals is in the space we refer to as the ‘now’.  Animals do not spend their time speculating on the past or worrying about the future.  If you want to relate and communicate with them, bring yourself to the present and focus on what is now.

We all have busy schedules and life challenges us all every day, so I know from experience how difficult is is to stay in the ‘now’.  Spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, writes in his book, ‘Guardians of Being’ that “just watching an animal closely can take you out of your mind and bring you into the present moment, which is where the animal lives all the time - surrendered to life”.

Animals come into our lives for a reason.  You may think that you did the choosing, but I can assure you that you did not.  And if you did by chance, you may find that the animal left you very soon because the need to follow his own path is great.  The length of time that animals stay with us depends on how long they are needed.  While you may want them to stay longer, they must leave if their goal with you has been met.

There are many reasons for an animal to come into your life.  One of the most powerful reasons is to help you stay on your life’s course - to assist your spirit guides in fulfilling your purpose for being here and to help guide you toward your goals.  Sometimes it’s an emotional reason when you are going through tough times...sometimes it’s just to get you moving when your health is being challenged.  They never give up on us, no matter what, because they are totally accepting and the real basis for unconditional love.

All animals are where they are supposed to be.  As difficult as it may be to see an animal in an abusive situation, understand that the animal is there for a reason.  We do not have the right to interfere or judge.  Most of the time, it is to make us aware and motivate us to do the right thing.  And if you are not in a position to report or help, just honor that animal by acknowledging him and thanking him for his gift.  You have just met a very old soul.

The way we treat animals is a reflection of the way we relate to the world.  If we mistreat the basic aspects of life, we can not cherish life.  So...listen.  Be in the moment, take a deep breath and listen.  Our animals are talking to us....

THE SERVICE DOG

Many animals have touched my life.  And I know that my guides are always there to help facilitate my animal communication.  Like the time that I was having breakfast at our local coffee shop when a couple with a service dog came in (the gentleman was blind).  I couldn't help but greet this beautiful animal and honor him for his devoted service.  He immediately insisted that I tell his people that "I love my job".

Oops...I had broken a very important rule in the Code of Ethics for Animal Communicators - Do Not Talk To Animals Without Permission!!  Well, I didn't actually break the rule because I didn't seek information....but I did acknowledge him and opened myself up to his request.  So I had to explain to him why I could not do it.  Besides, I didn't know these people and they would probably think I was crazy!
His response..."they will understand...tell them I love my job".

For 15 minutes, I tried to ignore this dog but he would not leave me alone!  Finally, I called over their waitress (a friend of mine) to ask if she knew them.  No, she didn't.  The dog did not accept this excuse either!  So, I asked the waitress if she would accompany me while I approached these strangers and explained what was happening.
Thankfully, they were very receptive.  They explained that they had attended a two day spiritual seminar and the dog had to lay on a linoleum floor for over 7 hours.  They felt so badly that they talked about leaving him home for the next weekend.  They were having a hard time deciding what was best for their dog and were very grateful for the message.  Before I left, I was given permission to interact with this amazing animal even though he was in 'work mode' and received a generous amount of appreciation.  I am so very grateful for my gift!
